Business Development Manager - Fertilizers

We are looking for a qualified Business Developer to join our growing team in Singapore. This role will suit an outgoing person who is customer-focused, energized by commercial interactions, enjoys solving problems, is comfortable cold-calling and enjoys extensive traveling within Asia / the Middle East.
The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert on commodity pricing and fertilizer markets to raise Argus’ profile, develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders in the fertilizer industry and promote the use of Argus price benchmarks. This strategic industry-facing role requires frequent engagement with industry participants to promote Argus fertilizer services and to provide intelligence to drive product development and inform strategic decisions for the business.
You will represent Argus at industry events and establish relationships with industry decision-makers across Asia and the Middle East. As part of engaging with the market, there will be a significant focus on making relevant connections, then successfully securing meetings and relationship building to discuss customer pain points. The aim will be to identify opportunities to better support customers’ commercial activities and decision-making using Argus services.
Key areas of focus will be fertilizer raw materials markets, including sulphur, sulphuric acid and ammonia, as well as finished fertilizers such as urea, processed phosphates, potash, and NPKs.
What you will be doing
Develop and execute regional strategies across Asia and the Middle East to increase usage of Argus price assessments and grow the regional subscription business in fertilizer market reports and analytics services.
Support strategic sector objectives. One of the key objectives will be to support Argus; relationship with brokers and exchanges and develop existing and upcoming Argus-based fertilizer derivatives.
Build strong business relationships with fertilizer industry executives through proactive engagement.
Work with subject matter experts and editors of fertilizer market reports to develop price assessments and methodologies and new products that solve real problems clients and prospects face.
Understand client requirements for fundamentals data and fertilizer price forecasts.
Monitor the competitive environment for Argus fertilizer services in Asia and the Middle East and propose strategies to maintain or achieve market leadership.
Support account managers to grow their accounts by identifying commercial opportunities and joining meetings where appropriate to demonstrate the value of Argus services.
Represent Argus at industry conferences and business gatherings, including regular speaking engagements.
Coordinate regional fertilizer strategy with SVP Fertilizers and the fertilizer sector leadership team. Regularly communicate opportunities and challenges faced in the region with this group.
Contribute (as needed) to white papers, presentations, analyses, and marketing materials.

What we’re looking for in you
Experience promoting price indexation, business intelligence or market analytics services in energy or fertilizer-related industries.
7+ years of experience in price reporting, supply, trading, and/or analysis in fertilizer markets, including deep understanding of industry economics and logistics.
Strong negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to build long-lasting, positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including but not limited to senior executives, corporate entities, as well as government and non-government organisations.
Ability to uncover customers’ problems and align them back to our value proposition.
Cross-cultural management track record, with focus on APAC, South Asia, Middle East.
Demonstrated ability to deliver successful outcomes in a complex matrix management environment and build effective working relationships with colleagues in all business functions.
Suitable professional qualifications, such as undergraduate or master’s degree in a relevant field.
Proactive and able to work independently.
Travel
20-25% of extensive travel within Asia / the Middle East
