We usually respond within a week
Argus is where smart people belong and where they can grow. We answer the challenge of illuminating markets and shaping new futures.
What we’re looking for:
India is the single most important market for fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials. It is also the most complex in terms of pricing, subsidy structure and policy. Through its own Department of Fertilizers, the Indian government takes a direct interest in the sector and as such, legislation around fertilizers has always been politically sensitive and integral to wider government policy. We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to join our team to cover the Indian fertilizer sector with a focus on sustainable and specialty products. You will be responsible for daily and weekly Indian market coverage, covering key price points and reporting on deals/sales, tenders, government announcements and policy, and any relevant market developments. You will be a skilled writer and a lateral and logical thinker, driven by an interest and curiosity in market movements. You will also need to demonstrate an ability to engage with contacts and develop relationships within the Indian fertilizer sector both at industry and government level. You will be a natural team player and a vital member of the Argus fertilizer editorial team, collaborating effectively with other editors and reporters across the regional hubs. Argus' coverage of the sustainable fertilizer market covers everything from high efficiency water soluble products to enhanced efficiency products plus the use of green ammonia in more environmentally friendly fertilizer production. At a time when commoditised fertilizer market demand can at times stagnate, the growth in demand for sustainable fertilizers is a key reason why Argus has spearheaded coverage of this increasingly important market. The sustainable fertilizer sector is seen by Argus as a vital part of its global editorial coverage. The Argus fertilizer team is truly global, with editors/reporters located in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America and Russia. This provides unrivalled coverage of local markets and implications at the global level. It also offers many opportunities to travel and present papers at industry conferences and lead webinar sessions. Argus runs numerous fertilizer conferences, and the right candidate is encouraged to present and become an industry expert.
What will you be doing:
• Work closely with London to monitor and assess the Indian market to produce daily market coverage, weekly price assessments, news and reports
• Provide cover to contribute to daily assessments in the Indian market when required
• Develop relationships with producers, traders and buyers and other key market sources to build mutual respect, trust and to gather market intelligence. Become a recognised India market expert
• Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus Media externally
• Support the commercial teams and contribute to the development of the sustainability report - suggesting new ways of covering the market from fresh price assessments to legislative developments
• Maintain existing databases and build new databases for designated products
• Provide subject-matter expertise to other Argus departments e.g. consulting, analytics & research.
Skills and Experience:
• Prior experience in the fertilizer/commodity or financial/energy journalism sectors is essential
• Strong understanding and interest in the global commodity markets, especially those related to fertilizers and/or agriculture
• Proven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadline
• Excellent written, grammatical and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process), and an ability to write engaging content
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to network and build contacts with industry executives
• Effective co-ordination and time management skills
• A natural team player who is also able to work independently.
Attributes:
• Ability to interact with non-technical people in plain language
• Innovative thinker with good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
• Numerically proficient
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines
• Customer service focused.
