Head of Application Engineering
Working as the Head of Engineering you will be part of the Technology and Data Leadership team and partner with R&D, product, architecture and data teams to deliver solutions.

Working as the Head of Engineering you will be part of the Technology and Data Leadership team and partner with R&D, product, architecture and data teams to deliver solutions that meet the required business needs, quality, and technical standards.
What will you be doing
- Define and execute the technical strategy around customer facing platforms such as API frameworks, browser and mobile solutions, AI protocols and data processing pipelines
- Apply software and data engineering best practices to develop scalable solutions, based on common architecture patterns and principles
- Support data governance, lineage, and compliance in data engineering practices
- Work with product management, testing and DevOps teams to build platform roadmaps that align with the company's objectives and product priorities
- Ensure the milestones on the platform roadmaps are delivered on time, on spec and on budget
- Drive rapid, reliable delivery while keeping platform health, security, and scalability front of mind
- Maintain a strong focus on practicality, user experience and user satisfaction
- Lead, coach, and grow a global engineering team, building career paths, mentoring, and creating a culture of ownership
- Embed AI, automation, and pragmatic DevOps practices to boost speed and quality
- Be a visible, approachable leader, removing bottlenecks and enabling the team
- Ensure that all engineering work meets agreed standards of quality, including code reviews, testing, and best practices with a hands-on approach, and the ability to recognize what good code looks like
- Allocate resources in partnership with Technology Operations to maximise productivity of the engineering team
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to constantly seek ways to enhance their skills and processes
- Establish key performance metrics; monitor and report on progress against goals
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong understanding of:
- Service oriented architecture, microservices, event-driven architectures
- Data operations / engineering (ETL, data lakes, streaming, Redshift/Athena)
- DevOps practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, containerization)
- Cloud native development with AWS services
- Strong understanding of product development, architecture, engineering, and data science principles
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills to influence and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and partners
