What will you be doing
Argus is looking for smart, energetic and curious early-career journalists who are interested in the vital and rapidly changing world of commodity markets, the building blocks of commerce and society. Our reporters delve deep into spot markets, identifying trends and assessing the prices that ultimately drive the global economy.
Successful candidates will begin their Argus journey through our early career program, which will expose them to multiple different commodity markets as well as a stint on the News team, followed by placement with a specific commodity team.
In this role, the reporter will apply and develop reporting skills across pricing, news, and analysis, playing a key role in enhancing the breadth and quality of our market coverage. Our reporters are responsible for producing daily or weekly news and analytical content on specific markets, which will be published online and in our market reports under the guidance of an experienced editor. The position also involves attending meetings, conferences, and industry events to build contacts, gather news and represent Argus.
What we’re looking for in you
- A graduate with a strong degree, preferably in journalism or economics
- Developing and maintaining rapport with key contacts and liaising regularly with industry stakeholders (buyers, sellers, traders, distributors) to gain market intelligence.
- Working with and interviewing subject matter experts, research industry trends and assessing the worthiness of potential topics.
- Synthesizing complex information quickly. Writing market commentary, analysis pieces and news stories in clear, concise language while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Maintaining existing databases and building new databases for designated product.
- Developing new contacts and relationships within marketplace.
- Advanced Excel skills
- Self-motivation and initiative to drive projects forward with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
